Hello Spring! That’s the theme of the Spring Fling Writing Contest, hosted by Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez and Ciara O’Neal. I thought I’d take a chance and enter a 150-word story. Easy peasy, right? Only 150 words, right? Writing a story with only 150 words is harder than you might think. I made it – 146 words. Yay!
I love Spring. The cacti are blooming here in central Arizona. I can actually open the windows before the first triple-digit temperature hits. I listen to the quail calling for their mates.
However, the story I wrote for the Spring Fling Writing Contest isn’t about any of those topics – had you fooled, didn’t I? Our task was to find a GIF and write the story about it. My story is about a little girl who shows her family a pretty yellow flower she found. So here we go…
THE DANDELION

Lilly stooped down to examine something new next to her sandbox.
She pinched it from the ground, admiring the bright yellow flower.
She showed her father.
“Look what I found.”
“It’s a weed. Throw it away.”
Lilly protected her treasure by cradling it in the palm of her hand. She showed her mother.
“Look what I found.”
“Put it in the kitchen. We can make tea.”
Lilly didn’t want to give up her flower, so she showed it to her grandmother.
“Look what I found.”
“Gather some of its leaves, and we’ll toss them in our salad.”
Lilly skipped outside to find leaves and discovered more yellow flowers, and one with a puffy head standing above the others.
She plucked it and blew. The wind carried the seeds across the yard, creating hundreds of new flowers.
Lilly whispered to her yellow flower, “Look what I made.”
